OUR MISSION
BLISS empowers adolescent girls who must pick work over school to meet household financial needs. There are millions such female laborers across the world, employed in the carpet weaving, coffee, sports, leather and garment industries. Our mission is to bring these girls to school and keep them in school. Simultaneously, our innovative curriculum teaches useful skills that enable them to continue contributing to family income in an ethical and responsible manner, and that boost lifetime earning potential. Our entrepreneurship curriculum provides girls the training and tools they need to launch their own micro-enterprises. By keeping adolescent girls in school for longer, BLISS gives girls the opportunity to participate, to be powerful agents of change for themselves, their families, communities, countries and even the planet!
OUR APPROACH
BLISS brings working girls to school via monetary incentives that compensate for the wages lost when school is picked over work. These incentives are funded by the sale of embroidered handbags the girls are trained to design and create. Over time, our entrepreneurship training ensures a community buy-in, so that the girls have complete ownership of the enterprise. We believe in change that lasts. We do not just connect the girls to viable markets. Instead, we teach them how to do market research so they can find their own markets! BLISS incentives and the attention paid to practical education makes schooling appealing to communities that have traditionally struggled to realize its importance.
